Special Needs
Happy Endings is home to many felines of all shapes and sizes. However, occasionally we receive some that require special attention or medical care, but, are nevertheless in need of loving, forever homes. Listed below are our current "Special Needs" cats. If you are interested in any of these wonderful felines or if you just have a question; feel free to send an e-mail to info@happyendings.us.
MEDICAL
Sweet little Dexter was a victim of some serious animal abuse from his supposedly 'caring' owners. The children of said owners would swing this poor guy around by his tail! With a good head on his shoulders, Dexter escaped the clutches of this 'home' and scrambled up a tree. His owners didn't seem to care, despite the fact that Dexter cried for days - 4 days in fact! At least a good hearted soul found him, got him down and brought him to H.E. Unfortunately, he was showing some very abnormal signs.. quite frightening ones actually. Every time his tail twitched, he would violently attack, scream and hiss at it. These attacks would last for minutes and created a great upset at the shelter. Thanks to the Animal Hospital of South Milwaukee, Dexter was looked at and was diagnosed with Feline Hyperesthesia disorder.
Due to his special needs, Dexter would be best suited in a home that has a playful, friendly dog to keep him distracted and active. Also, a family that would
participate in his favorite activities: laser light, da bird, and a nice window with a perch so he can watch what's going on outside. He has only been having his "episodes" when he's been bored, so being active is very helpful. No young children (based on past abuse) and preferably no other cats.
Come and meet Dexter who is being fostered by the Animal Hosp. of S. Milwaukee - THANK YOU!!
Kiley

Kiley is a beautiful orange tabby with a loving personality. Unfortunately, she has a pretty big problem. She was only a few months shy of a year when she was rushed to the animal emergency hospital, barely able to breathe. After the veterinarians examined her, they returned with a rather grim diagnosis. Kiley went into cardiac arrest and has congestive heart failure. For treatment, she is on medication and she takes them rather well.
Kiley is now in foster care and is also now spayed but she still is holding out hope for a home of her own. If you feel you can help Kiley, contact us!
You can get updates from Kiley herself here! -- http://kileymarie.blog.com/

Bubb is a charming boy who needs a special home. Since he has been in our care Bubb has had a few medical emergencies and was recently diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). He will need special food and medication to control his IBD. In addition, Bubb does not get along well with other creatures (he does not like to share the attention and affection of humans!) That all being said, he is a very sweet cat who loves humans and getting attention from them. If you think you can offer Bubb the home and care he needs – stop in and see him today. He can be found in the middle room with some of other special kitties.
BEHAVIORAL
Tempest

This cute little girl is Tempest. She came to Happy Endings giving birth as she came through the door. She successfully delivered and raised her kittens. All of her adorable kittens were easily adopted. She has been spayed and is now ready for her furever home. She is a little shy, but very cuddly.
Dublin and Duncan
These two cuties are not related but have a bond stronger than blood and must go together. Duncan was left on our doorstep and Dublin was born here at Happy Endings. They love one another deeply and would love to make themselves at home in your house and grow to love you as well. They can be a little shy until they get to know you so they will need a patient and understanding family. Please consider giving this pair the happy ending they have waited so long for.
Hello! My name is Cheddar and I am looking for a wonderful home to call my own. I was adopted out once before but was returned to Happy Endings when my former owners could not handle my hot and cold behavior. I can tend to get nippy with humans if rubbed the wrong way. Thus, I would prefer a home without small children, but with patient and loving owners who are willing to work with me to help me overcome my sometimes socially awkward behavior. (I also tend to prefer men. Just call me man’s best friend!) Deep down I really am a sweet boy, I just need time and understanding in order to really shine. If you would like to give me a second chance, please stop in and see me. P.S. I am also ADORABLE!

Meet Rajah! This cute guy was born in April of 2002.
Rajah was surrendered to us because his owners were allergic to him. When you
meet him, you may notice that he has some fur missing around his neck and his
stomach. This is because his owners kept him tethered in the basement with a
leash and harness because their allergies were so bad.
As you can image, Rajah isn't your average sort of cat. He is an absolute
sweetheart but is prone to random nipping without warning. Because of this, we
believe he shouldn't be in a home with children. Also, he needs to be the only
cat in the house because he tends to start fights with the other cats at the
shelter.
All Rajah needs is a loving and understanding home that doesn't mind a little
sass.
Winston is a light gray tabby looking for a new home. He is rather shy and tends to bite when he gets agitated. Because of this, we recommend no young children in the household. Even though he may be a biter, Happy Endings will always love and take care of him until that perfect home comes along.
Tribble and Domino are 2 frisky felines who must go together. They were found as strays and are now looking for their furever home – is it yours? Because of their wild start in life, they will need a family who understands that they might be a little shy toward humans in the beginning. However, once they are acclimated, they would make a perfect addition to any home. Please come in to see if you can give these 2 darlings the home they need and deserve.
Carmen and Calypso
Carmen and Calypso are two beautiful girls who are having a very hard time trusting humans. They were born in June of 2004 and lived in an auto garage until they were 5 months without any sort of human interaction. Because of their rough start in life they are still a little shy. Carmen likes to be petted and even sometimes held, which is a huge breakthrough considering how she was a few years ago. Calypso is the more stubborn one, enjoying shelter life with her sister and her best friend, Dylan. She doesn't want anything to do with people but when approached at the right time she can be picked up, but not for very long. These girls are hoping for that special owner who will understand and be patient with them and let them just be themselves.
Pip and Squeak

Pip and Squeak are two brothers that are very attached to each
other. They are the two sons of Beauty and brothers to Blossom and Blush. We
work daily to build up their trust, but they need a permanent home where they
can continue doing so.
Squeak can be held, carried around, brushed and petted. He likes it when his fur
is ruffled and loves to hang around with other cats on a cat tree. Pip is the
one that is more shy, but with certain people, he will allow you to pet him
around his chin, ears and down his back.
Blossom and Blush
Blossom and Blush are the sisters of Pip & Squeak and the daughters of Beauty. They were once quite feral, much like how their mother was. But after many months and with the hard, dedicated work from many volunteers, these girls are much closer to being wonderful cats. A patient and loving home is required, but we are sure that whomever will adopt them will reap great rewards! They love to be around other cats and will actually open up more when other cats are around. They are also quite food motivated as well! However, because of their shy and fearful personalities, we suggest that there be no children in the household.
Beamer
Beamer is a handsome boy who was born on 10-28-08. He was
found under the hood of a car with a rubber band wrapped tightly around his back
foot. The band was removed before any permanent damage to his leg happened, but
now he has a bald spot where the band used to be.
He was very shy and scared when he came in, and had a very hard time adjusting
to the shelter. Now, he is full of energy and is coming out of his cage to play
and run around with the other cats. He still is a bit scared of humans but likes
to talk to you and even will tolerate human attention.
Beamer needs a home where he can run and be himself. Can you provide him that?
Maxie
.jpg)
Maxie is a another long term resident of Happy Endings in need of a special home with an understanding owner. He is what we would call a tough guy who likes to show everyone (humans and cats a like) who the boss is. He can be aggressive with other cats and has been known to randomly attack volunteers as well. He can also be quite two-faced – a sweet, charming boy one minute and rough and aggressive the next. Obviously, he would need a home without small children. If you think you have the unconditional love Maxie deserves, stop in and get to know him better.
Tazz
Tazz certainly used to live up to his namesake with a lot of frenzied fear flying about. Feral turned tame, Tazz is yet another breakthrough that Happy Endings has been apart of. Anyone that says ferals can't be turned around don't obviously know that with a little bit of patience and a lot of love, just about any feral can be turned.
Tazz used to bite, hiss, spit and claw at anyone who came his way. Never coming out of his cage, we had thought he gave up hope on humankind. It all started out when some of our volunteers started holding him and then started leaving his cage open while some of the other special needs cats were out, soon forming a bond with many of the cats that were there (Miss Priss, Sally, Blossom and Blush - just to name a few). After a while, we noticed that he was much more open and even talked to us from within his cage (when his door was closed) - Open his door and in would fly Miss Priss, who proceeded to nuzzle and lay with Tazz. One day, Tazz jumped OUT of his cage - And instead of going crazy, he sat there and looked up to the two volunteers who were working with him!
Still a little scared, we couldn't really pet him like we could when someone held him, but fear not, that too would change! We quickly started noticing that he loved to travel up front and rest in a cat tree while all the volunteers were gone. One day, there he was! Tazz was resting on his tree in front of a human! It was all over after that. While on his tree, we can pet him.. He loves belly rubs and rolls over onto his back to get more all the while purring and kneading the air. He has made many friends at the shelter and is beginning to love us as well. It's amazing how one kitty can be so special.
Miss Priss and Sally
Miss Priss was born around 10/08. She is an adorable girl, but she was feral when she came to us. She is learning to trust people a little bit more every day. Due to her difficult start in life, she would do best in a home without small children. She would love a special home with a patient person willing to teach her to trust. Unfortunately, Miss Priss has been having seizures and is currently being monitored for this. She has been looked at by a vet and the suggested diagnosis is epilepsy. If she continues to have more seizures more often, she may have to be put on medication and go into a foster home.
Sally was born 05/08. She was a feral kitten when she came to us. She was rescued by someone who was afraid she wouldn't make it through the winter. She is still learning to trust people, but does like to be petted under her chin. Sally would love a home with other cats. Sally needs a special, and very quiet home, with someone willing to teach her to trust people.
These two desperately need a home together, especially if Miss Priss needs to be in foster care.
